El presidente de la Asociación de Alcaldes de Puerto Rico, Luis Javier Hernández Ortiz, solicitó este miércoles al gobernador Pedro Pierluisi declarar el estado de emergencia ante la crisis de seguridad en la isla.
Esta solicitud llega luego de que en la última semana se registrara la tercera masacre del año en la isla, fueran asesinadas 2 menores de 13 y 15 años y muriera un sargento en un tiroteo, entre otros crímenes.
Hernández Ortiz llamó en un comunicado al gobernador y al comisionado de la Policía, Antonio López Figueroa, que declaren una emergencia y que apliquen «un plan que pueda darle tranquilidad al país».
El también alcalde del municipio de Villalba lamentó en su nota la muerte del sargento Pedro Torres Santos, de 59 años, el pasado lunes frente a una panadería en Trujillo Alto, donde trabajaba a tiempo parcial como guardia de seguridad.
Hernández Ortiz explicó que los sicarios ya no respetan tan siquiera a los uniformados y denunció una merma de policías estatales en los cuarteles.
«Hay una realidad, y es que policías municipales han asumido responsabilidades que, desde un inicio, no les competen, puesto que dicho cuerpo fue creado para apoyar la labor de agentes estatales y no para sustituirlos», comentó.
Junto al caso del sargento, la sociedad puertorriqueña quedó conmocionada la semana pasada con el mencionado asesinato de las dos menores en Piñones y de un adolescente y dos jóvenes en Carolina.
