El diario El Comercio reportó que además de la P1 también se reportaron siete casos de la variante inglesa B.1.1.7 y dos de la variante andina C.37. «Los laboratorios del Centro de Investigaciones de la Universidad Espíritu Santo (UEES) vuelven a encender las alarmas. Los análisis de vigilancia genómica realizados durante abril registraron el primer caso de la variante P1 del SARS-CoV-2 en Guayaquil».
La investigación de la Universidad además detectó que en Guayaquil predomina la variante de Nueva York.
A mediados del mes pasado, la variante P1 del SARS-CoV-2 ya fue detectada por la Universidad San Francisco de Quito en la provincia de Loja (Sur).
