Ospina declaró en una entrevista con el medio RT que desde la Alcaldía de Cali nunca ha salido una voz que oriente a reprimir de manera violenta la manifestación, a que no utilicen el vestuario que representa a la Policía Nacional, o a que no cumplan los protocolos que están establecidos.
Los habitantes de Cali, capital del departamento del Valle del Cauca, denunciaron este 6 de mayo, en videos difundidos en redes sociales, que policías vestidos de civil descendieron de un camión y comenzaron a disparar a manifestantes en el sector de El Ancla, una zona ubicada al oeste de la ciudad.
El general Juan Carlos Rodríguez, comandante de la Policía Metropolitana de Cali confirmó que los uniformados se dirigieron al sitio, pero ofreció una versión de lo sucedido distinta a la que denunciaron los vecinos en El Ancla.
De acuerdo con el general Rodríguez, los uniformados se desplazaron al sitio para atender robos violentos y extorsiones en la zona. «Antes de realizar el procedimiento, uniformados llegan al sitio y descienden del vehículo en el momento que se registran disparos provenientes de una multitud, situación que deja como resultado dos policías heridos», declaró el comandante.
De su lado, Ospina dijo que su gobierno construyó una «mesa de la verdad» que contará con la participación de organizaciones de derechos humanos, con el objetivo de adelantar «las investigaciones pertinentes frente a lo que será denunciado».
