El Ministerio de las Fuerzas Armadas de Rusia incorporará este año las primeras unidades de la novedosa bomba planeadora PBK-500U Drel (‘Taladro’ en castellano), que es invisible para los radares e incorpora quince submuniciones autoguiadas que van equipadas con un paracaídas cada una.
Las evaluaciones realizadas «han confirmado la eficacia de combate» de esta arma y las adquisiciones de la misma por el Estado están programadas para el año en curso y para 2022-2023, anunció este domingo el viceprimer ministro ruso, Yuri Borísov, en una entrevista con la agencia Interfax.
La expansión de esta bomba planeadora comenzó en la última década del siglo XX, pero las pruebas solo se llevaron a cabo a partir de 2016. La última fase de las pruebas coincidió con las primeras de su análoga estadounidense, la bomba planeadora GBU-39/B de pequeño diámetro, en el marco del programa ‘Golden Horde’ del laboratorio de investigación de la Fuerza Aérea de EE.UU.
El arma rusa aprovecha las ventajas del sistema de posicionamiento global GLONASS, la navegación por satélite del país, y también un sistema de guiado inercial, así como los sensores infrarrojos y de radar. Su acelerador a chorro le proporciona un alcance de hasta 30 kilómetros, en función de la altura del lanzamiento (de entre 100 y 14.000 metros). El portador principal de Drel será el cazabombardero de quinta generación Sukhoi Su-57.
Como China, Estados Unidos, Israel, la India y Pakistán, Rusia no se encuentra entre los países firmantes de la Convención sobre las bombas con submuniciones, que pretende prohibir a escala internacional el uso, bajo cualquier circunstancia, de esta clase de armas, popularmente conocida como bombas de racimo.
