Un incendio se produjo la mañana de este lunes en una planta química de la localidad de Rockton (Illinois, EE.UU.) tras una enorme explosión, lo que provocó la evacuación de los residentes de la zona debido a la posible liberación de sustancias peligrosas.
Según la empresa Chemtool Incorporated, a la que pertenecen las instalaciones, el incendio comenzó alrededor de las 07:00 (hora local) y confirmó que «todos en el sitio están a salvo y contabilizados».
«Nuestra preocupación en este momento es la seguridad de todos nuestros empleados y la comunidad circundante. Como medida de precaución, las autoridades han evacuado a los habitantes en un radio de una milla [unos 2 kilómetros] del lugar», agregó.
La compañía afirmó que hasta el momento se desconoce la causa del incidente y aseguró que «trabajará con las autoridades locales y con el propio equipo de gestión de riesgos para determinar qué sucedió e identificar las acciones correctivas».
