Una cámara de seguridad captó las aterradoras imágenes del momento preciso en que la cabina de un teleférico se precipitó al vacío en la región italiana de Piamonte. La tragedia, ocurrida el 23 de mayo, provocó la muerte de 14 personas.
En las imágenes, se observa cómo la cabina recorre los últimos metros antes de llegar a la plataforma, mientras que los pasajeros ya se preparan para salir. De repente, uno de los cables se rompe y la cabina comienza a retroceder a toda velocidad. Segundos después, cae al vacío desde una altura de 20 metros después de golpear uno de los postes de soporte.
Tres personas fueron arrestadas por lo sucedido: el responsable del servicio, Gabriel Tadini, el ingeniero Enrico Perocchio y el propietario de la empresa que gestiona el teleférico, Luigi Nerini. A todos ellos se les acusa de «homicidio culposo agravado».
«En las fotos del teleférico vimos que el sistema de emergencia de frenos parecía manipulado, en el sentido de que se había colocado un tenedor que bloqueaba los frenos», explicó la fiscal Olimpia Bossi.
El único sobreviviente al incidente es Eitan, un niño de cinco años de origen israelí que perdió a sus padres y a su pequeño hermano Tom. Los médicos sugieren que se habría salvado gracias a su padre, quien lo abrazó y lo cubrió con su cuerpo.
