Este martes, en China anunciaron un programa de pruebas masivas para detener el covid-19 en la ciudad de Wuhan, debido a un nuevo brote de contagios provocado por la variante Delta del coronavirus.
A diferencia de brotes anteriores, los contagios están mucho más extendidos y ya se han confirmado casos en más de 35 ciudades repartidas por 17 de las 33 provincias y regiones del gigante asiático.
Al igual que en muchos países, China frenó en gran medida la propagación del virus con cuarentenas y pruebas masivas para aislar a las personas infectadas. Wuhan tiene una población de más de 11 millones de personas y es la última ciudad china en someterse a pruebas masivas. El 2 de agosto se confirmaron tres casos en esa ciudad, los primeros no importados en más de un año.
En la provincia de Jiangsu, tuvieron que cancelar el transporte aéreo y ferroviario en varias ciudades, pues la mayoría de contagios atribuidos a la variante Detlta se registraron allí. Mientras tanto, se han administrado en China 1.600 millones de dosis de vacunas contra el covid-19, aunque los científicos señalan que esos fármacos de producción china son menos efectivos contra la variante Delta.
