Un día como hoy, 1 de diciembre de 1821, fue proclamada la llamada independencia efímera de la hoy República Dominicana (RD). En aquel entonces, cuyo principal ideólogo fue José Núñez de Cáceres, se proclamó que: “No más dependencia, no más humillación, no más sometimiento al capricho y veleidad del Gabinete de Madrid”. En la proclama también se hizo constar que: “la parte española de la República de Haití queda desde este día constituida en un Estado libre e independiente”, pasando a la historia con el nombre de Estado Independiente de Haití Español.
Esa independencia efímera duró hasta el 9 de febrero de 1822, ya que ese día se produjo la invasión haitiana, encabezada por Jean-Pierre Boyer, que se extendió hasta el 27 de febrero de 1844, cuando se proclamó nueva vez la independencia, esta vez bajo el ideario del movimiento conocido como La Trinitaria, fundada por Juan Pablo Duarte en 1838.
Termino esta nota con un pensamiento de Juan Pablo Duarte: “Vivir sin Patria, es lo mismo que vivir sin honor”.
