El presidente de la República Dominicana Luis Abinader lanzó Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Ciudadana (SINSEC), que procurará la integración, coordinación y articulación entre las distintas instancias del sector público, este estará bajo la rectoría del Ministerio de Interior y Policía.
Dentro de los objetivos del nuevo sistema están asegurar el cumplimiento efectivo de las políticas públicas en materia de seguridad ciudadana y convivencia pacífica, articulando los diferentes niveles de gobierno, las entidades públicas y la sociedad.
También, procurar la coherencia y armonía entre los distintos componentes del SINSEC e empulsar la articulación de los programas del Estado, en sus tres niveles de Gobierno, para atender los territorios del país más vulnerables a la violencia y el delito, promover la participación ciudadana e incorporar el liderazgo comunitario y local en la identificación de los problemas de seguridad ciudadana y convivencia, en la cogeneración y participación de soluciones de prevención de dichos problemas.
Será coordinado por el Ministerio de Interior y Policía, e integrado, además, por los ministerios de la Presidencia, de Deportes y Recreación, de Educación, de Salud Pública, de Obras Pública, de la Mujer, de la Vivienda y Edificaciones, de Cultura, de la Juventud, la Procuraduría General de la República, el Gabinete de Políticas Sociales, la Dirección Nacional de Control de Drogas (DNCD), el Consejo Nacional para la Niñez y la Adolescencia (CONANI), y la Policía Nacional.
