Entre 16 y 19 personas han muerto de frío tras quedar atrapadas en sus autos en medio de las fuertes nevadas que afectaron a la ciudad paquistaní de Murree, confirmó este sábado el ministro del Interior del país, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.
Según señaló el funcionario, más de 125.000 vehículos entraron en la ciudad turística de montaña, lo que generó un gran atasco. Hasta el momento, alrededor de 23.000 autos han sido evacuados, mientras se desarrolla una operación para rescatar a otros 1.000 coches varados en la nieve.
Para evitar más víctimas, el Gobierno ha prohibido la entrada de turistas en la ciudad y en la región de Galyat. Asimismo, instó a los ciudadanos a no salir de sus casas en caso de mal tiempo ni a dirigirse a Murree, ante la eventualidad de que las condiciones meteorológicas severas continúen en los próximos días.
