El Centro de Investigación en Bioarqueología, Paleopatología y Antropología Forense (FAPAB), en Avola (Italia), ha realizado una reconstrucción digital de Shep-en-Isis, la momia de una mujer que vivió en el Antiguo Egipto en el siglo VII a. C., según se aprecia en un video publicado este 9 de enero en YouTube.
Basándose en las inscripciones de su sarcófago, los expertos creen que la mujer nació en el seno de una familia acomodada cuyos miembros eran sacerdotes del dios Amón en Tebas, motivo por el que es probable que hubiera recibido algún grado de educación formal.
Su momia fue descubierta en 1819 en la parte sur del templo funerario de Hatshepsut, que se ubica en la orilla occidental del río Nilo. Un año después, fue enviada a Suiza, donde se convirtió en un objeto de estudio para los investigadores y en la momia egipcia «más famosa» de ese país.
Sin embargo, el equipo del Centro de Investigación FAPAB utilizó una tomografía computarizada del esqueleto de Shep-en-Isis y herramientas 3D para reconstruir su rostro, centrándose «exclusivamente en la apariencia forense y la evidencia anatómica».
Según Cícero Moraes, diseñador 3D que estuvo al frente del proyecto, la característica más llamativa que ha revelado la reconstrucción del rostro de la momia son sus dientes ligeramente protuberantes, una deformidad que recibe el nombre científico de prognatismo maxilar de tipo II.
