El Gobierno boliviano informó que autorizó la aplicación selectiva de cuartas dosis o segundo refuerzo de vacunas contra el COVID-19, aunque insistió en que su prioridad sigue siendo inmunizar a quienes no han recibido aún ninguna.
«Nuestra prioridad son personas que no se han vacunado aún con ninguna dosis. La vacunación está habilitada para todos los grupos etarios, para cualquier dosis de refuerzo, se ha autorizado la cuarta dosis para ciertos grupos etarios», dijo el ministro de Salud, Jeyson Auza, citado en un boletín de su oficina.
El anuncio surgió después de que autoridades de salud de varias regiones dijeran que esperaban la autorización gubernamental para iniciar la aplicación de cuartas dosis contra el COVID-19, advirtiendo que había decenas de miles de vacunas almacenadas en riesgo de expirar.
Para la cuarta dosis se utilizará la vacuna del laboratorio AstraZeneca, indicó Auza.
El director del Programa Ampliado de Inmunización (PAI), Max Enríquez, explicó, según el mismo boletín, que la cuarta dosis será aplicada inicialmente al personal de salud y policías que participan en la lucha contra la pandemia, además de personas con enfermedades de base.
Bolivia recibió desde el inicio de la inmunización 23,8 millones de dosis de diversas marcas para cubrir una población vacunable de 10,2 millones de personas, a partir de 5 años.
El país ha aplicado hasta el martes 12,7 millones de dosis.
Según datos oficiales, 5,7 millones de personas fueron inmunizadas con esquema completo, y de ellas poco más de un millón recibieron inclusive terceras dosis.
