Un día como hoy, 25 de marzo de 1895, el dominicano Máximo Gómez y el cubano José Martí firmaron el “Manifiesto de Montecristi”, en República Dominicana, con el cual quedó sellado el reinicio de la lucha armada del pueblo de Cuba contra España, que tenía el control de la isla en calidad de colonia.
En el referido Manifiesto se establecieron las formas organizativas en las que se llevaría a cabo la revolución, y se establecieron las bases para la independencia integral de Cuba, basada en la libertad de pensamiento, equidad y paz.
