El presidente ecuatoriano Guillermo Lasso dispuso la descisión del Ministerio de Gobierno en dos: Ministerio del Interior y Ministerio de Gobierno y Gestión de la Política, y nombró a sus dos titulares.
El Ministerio del Interior también ejercerá la rectoría de la política pública de seguridad ciudadana, protección interna y orden público.
La escisión se da tras la renuncia, en la noche del martes, de la ministra de Gobierno, Alexandra Vela.
Lasso designó como ministro de Gobierno a Francisco Jiménez y a Patricio Carrillo como ministro del Interior.
Hasta el martes, Jiménez era legislador oficialista, presidente de la Comisión de Enmiendas Constitucionales de la Asamblea Constituyente.
Jiménez dijo el miércoles a periodistas que una de sus misiones en el ministerio será tender puentes entre el Ejecutivo y el Legislativo para bajar las tensiones entre los dos poderes del Estado.
Carrillo estuvo al frente de los operativos de seguridad en octubre del 2019 efectuados durante las protestas en contra del Gobierno de Lenín Moreno por el incremento del precio de los combustibles.
