Agentes del FBI en Puerto Rico arrestaron este jueves a los alcaldes de Aguas Buenas y Humacao, Javier García Pérez y Reinaldo Vargas Rodríguez, respectivamente, señalados de corrupción y a quienes inmediatamente el gobernador de la isla, Pedro Pierluisi, exigió la renuncia.
Ambos alcaldes son integrantes del oficialista Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP), liderado por Pierluisi.
“He sido firme con este tipo de casos y esta vez no es la excepción, por lo que exijo la renuncia inmediata de ambos alcaldes arrestados hoy y espero que la fuerza de la ley caiga sobre ellos y sobre cualquiera que piense en volver a fallarle a Puerto Rico”, dijo Pierluisi en un comunicado de prensa.
“El pueblo puede estar seguro que como gobernador y presidente de un partido no me temblará la mano para repudiar las acciones ilegales vengan de donde vengan”, añadió.
Vargas Rodríguez cumple su primer término como alcalde de Humacao, mientras que su homólogo en Aguas Buenas se encuentra en el segundo. Con estos dos arrestos suman cinco los alcaldes arrestados en lo que va de este cuatrienio por estar involucrados en un esquema de corrupción en Puerto Rico, que es un territorio y Estado Libre Asociado de Estados Unidos.
Los otros alcaldes detenidos por corrupción son Ángel Pérez, del municipio de Guaynabo; Félix Delgado, de Cataño, y Eduardo Cintrón, de Guayama. En diciembre pasado, una investigación de un medio local reveló que Vargas recibió dinero en efectivo de parte del empresario Oscar Santamaría, presidente de la empresa Waste Collection, dedicada a la recolección de basura y escombros.
Gabriel Hernández, presidente de la Federación de Alcaldes, dijo en un comunicado de prensa que los arrestos de Vargas y García “vuelven a dirigir la atención del pueblo y de los Gobiernos municipales a asuntos que en nada aportan al bienestar de la isla”.
“Una vez más se mancha la reputación de los que ocupamos cargos públicos y es abono para el descontento y la desconfianza que la gente manifiesta cada vez que se conoce de una situación similar”, enfatizó el también alcalde de Camuy (norte).
“No hay razón para desviarse de la sana administración ni justificación para la comisión de actos de corrupción. Tenemos las herramientas, los recursos y el apoyo disponible para mantener una conducta ética. A eso es el llamado”, puntualizó.

One can install two RAM boards of 1GB each, as an example, but not one of 1GB and one of 2GB. One should make sure the manufacturer’s documentation for own PC to be sure what type of storage is required.
