Un hombre muerto y dos migrantes ilegales cubanos heridos es el saldo de un ataque armado contra un vehículo en una zona cercana a la capital guatemalteca, informaron este miércoles funcionarios locales.
«Tras el incidente armado registrado la noche de ayer (martes) en donde 5 personas de nacionalidad cubana se vieron afectadas, el Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración les brinda atención y asistencia ya que ingresaron de forma irregular a Guatemala», indicó la entidad en un comunicado. Tres migrantes cubanos resultaron ilesos en el ataque.
El incidente violento se registró en el kilómetro 6,5 de la Carretera al Atlántico (noreste), se indicó. Por el momento, no se dieron detalles sobre los motivos y responsables de la acción.
Los migrantes están siendo atendidos con terapia grupal, alimentación, atención médica y psicológica por parte del personal de Migración, indicó la repartición.
Los dos heridos fueron remitidos al hospital estatal San Juan de Dios donde fueron dados de alta y ahora son atendidos en la clínica del Centro de Atención para Migrantes Extranjeros (CAMIEX), ambos ubicados en la capital.
Para poder ingresar al país, Guatemala exige a los ciudadanos cubanos una visa de entrada, pasaporte vigente y prueba negativa de covid-19 o la constancia de haber recibido dos dosis de la vacuna contra el coronavirus.
Además de ser país de origen de migrantes que buscan ingresar sin documentos a Estados Unidos, Guatemala también es corredor de paso para miles de ciudadanos de otras nacionalidades que también intentan alcanzar territorio estadounidense.
