El presidente electo de Colombia, Gustavo Petro, ha anunciado este miércoles que se ha puesto en contacto con el Gobierno de Venezuela para abrir las fronteras y restablecer «el pleno ejercicio de los Derechos Humanos», después de que el saliente Iván Duque pusiera fin a las relaciones diplomáticas en febrero de 2019.

El anuncio del futuro inquilino de Casa de Nariño forma parte de una de sus promesas durante la campaña electoral, en la que remarcó la necesidad «urgente» y «prioritaria» de restablecer relaciones diplomáticas y consulares con Venezuela.
«Lo óptimo sería normalizar del todo nuestras interacciones bilaterales, lo sensato y tal vez lo viable, dado su deterioro actual, es empezar con lo que es más factible, es decir, lo consular, y trabajar hacia la restauración plena de relaciones», expuso Petro.
«Solo tenemos tres opciones: cooperar, agredir o aislarnos. Nuestro gobierno no será uno de aislamiento ni de agresiones. Colombia será conocida como potencia mundial para la vida. Nuestro gobierno mantendrá canales de comunicación abierta con el gobierno democráticamente elegido de Venezuela», subrayó.
Tras la confirmación de los resultados del domingo, el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, fue uno de los primeros líderes de la región en apresurarse a celebrar y dar la enhorabuena a Gustavo Petro y Francia Márquez por su «histórico» triunfo. «Se escuchó la voluntad del pueblo colombiano, que salió a defender el camino de la democracia y la paz. Nuevos tiempos se avizoran», festejó.
Posteriormente, algunas figuras del chavismo, como el vicepresidente del gobernante Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, señalaron que confían en que no uno, sino «muchos representantes de Venezuela» acudan a la toma de posesión de Petro, prevista para el 7 de agosto.
