Luego de que el presidente estadounidense Donald Trump advirtiera que algo grande ocurriría en Venezuela, se reportó un buque de guerra que ingresó sin permisos requeridos a las aguas venezolanas, violando el Derecho Marítimo Internacional y considerándose como una provocación por parte del presidente de EE.UU.
El comando Sur de Estados Unidos expresó que el buque navegó como parte de operativos antinarcóticos en el Caribe, algo usual para este tipo de buque. El Ministerio de Exteriores venezolano considera que Trump intenta simpatizar con los venezolanos y su situación sociopolítica para ganar votos latinos en las próximas elecciones.
