Moscú y Washington están negociando un posible canje de prisioneros, los cuales implicarían a un notorio traficante de armas ruso preso en Estados Unidos y a una basquetbolista norteamericana detenida en Rusia.
Estados Unidos declaró en varias ocasiones haber hecho una «oferta consecuente» para obtener la liberación de dos norteamericanos presos en Rusia, la basquetbolista Brittney Griner y el ex soldado Paul Whelan.
Según medios estadounidenses, el objetivo sería intercambiarlos por el traficante de armas rusos Viktor Bout, también conocido como «el mercader de la muerte».
«Las conversaciones sobre el muy sensible asunto de un trueque (de prisioneros) se están llevando a cabo por los canales designados por nuestros presidentes», declaró el director del departamento de América del Norte en el ministerio ruso de Exteriores, Alexander Darchiev.
Los nombres citados por la prensa norteamericana, dijo, «están siendo efectivamente tomados en consideración. Hace mucho tiempo que Rusia busca la liberación de Viktor Bout», añadió en una entrevista publicada este sábado por la agencia de prensa rusa Tass.
Es la primera vez que Moscú confirma la existencia de conversaciones sobre un posible intercambio de prisioneros en el que entraría Viktor Bout. Las negociaciones se aceleraron tras la condena a inicios de agosto de la basquetbolista Griner a nueve años de prisión, por tráfico de cannabis.
