Hoy, 19 de agosto, es el Día Mundial de la Fotografía, establecido en el 2009 por iniciativa del fotógrafo australiano Korske Ara.
La escogencia del día para la celebración se hizo en honor a Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre quien, el 19 de agosto de 1839, presentó a la Academia de Ciencias de Francia su invento que permitía capturar imágenes. Ese mismo día el gobierno francés liberó la patente de dicho invento, y lo denominó “Daguerrotipo», que fue el primer proceso fotográfico moderno de la historia.
