Con una inversión aproximada de 13 millones de pesos, el presidente de la República Dominicana, Luis Abinader, encabezó este sábado el primer picazo para la construcción del muelle de pescadores de Palenque, provincia San Cristóbal.
El mandatario afirmó que antes de iniciar su Gobierno, habían identificado al sector pesquero como uno «prácticamente olvidado» por décadas en el país.
Agregó que en su mandato, empezaron a identificar muelles pesqueros que con poca inversión podían tener un gran impacto en la economía de las comunidades. Asimismo, añadió que actualmente hay cuatro muelles en proceso de construcción y otros nueve en fase de diseño y licitación.
En tanto que, el director de Autoridad Portuaria, Jean Luis Rodríguez, manifestó que en el muelle podrán atracar hasta 45 embarcaciones y que el proyecto impactará más de 100 familias.
Sostuvo que el plan ya fue implantado en Boca Chica y Puerto Plata y se replicará en 13 comunidades con la intervención de 17 muelles.
