El Gobierno de los Estados Unidos ha considerado «alarmante” las conclusiones del informe de la ONU que alerta de graves la violaciones de los Derechos Humanos en la región china de Xinjiang, donde Washington afirma que se está cometiendo un genocidio.
El informe publicado el miércoles a última hora por la oficina de la ONU de los Derechos Humanos recoge abusos que, a ojos de la organización internacional, podrían ser constitutivos de crímenes contra la humanidad.
El secretario de Estado norteamericano, Antony Blinken, ha señalado en un comunicado que el documento aporta «detalles alarmantes» sobre una situación que Washington lleva años denunciando, con la vista puesta en las acciones de Pekín contra las minorías, especialmente la uigur.
«Este informe profundiza y reafirma nuestra grave preocupación relativa al genocidio y los crímenes contra la humanidad que el Gobierno chino está perpetrando contra los uigures, que son en su mayoría musulmanas, y miembros de otras minorías étnicas y religiosas», ha subrayado Blinken.
Washington seguirá trabajando «estrechamente» con sus aliados para avanzar en la rendición de cuentas, si bien el jefe de la diplomacia estadounidense ha exhortado a las autoridades chinas a liberar a todas aquellas personas detenidas de forma «injusta», informar de los desaparecidos y permitir el acceso «sin trabas» de investigadores independientes.
