Más de 20 personas han muerto en el centro de Somalia como consecuencia de un ataque perpetrado por el grupo terrorista Al Shabaab contra un grupo de camiones que transportaba comida y de la posterior explosión de una mina en la región Hiraan del país.
El incidente tuvo lugar el viernes por la noche y, en un primer asalto contra el convoy, perecieron al menos 17 civiles. Posteriormente, al menos cinco personas más que se dirigían a esa zona para responder al ataque fallecieron víctimas de un artefacto explosivo, según las informaciones recabadas por el portal Garowe Online.
El doble ataque ha tenido lugar en una región en la que el Ejército somalí ha llevado a cabo recientemente operaciones contra Al Shabaab, un grupo aliado de Al Qaeda que aspira a imponer su estricta visión del islamismo en Somalia.
Se trata del peor atentado registrado en Somalia desde el asalto a un hotel de Mogadiscio en agosto que se saldó también con más de una veintena de fallecidos. Tras este atentado, el presidente somalí, Hasán Sheij Mohamud, prometió endurecer la ofensiva contra el terrorismo.
