El presidente brasileño, Jair Bolsonaro, ofreció este martes en la Asamblea General de la ONU «abrir sus puertas» a los religiosos católicos que «sufren persecución» por el régimen «dictatorial» del nicaragüense de Daniel Ortega.
«Brasil abre sus puertas para acoger a los padres y monjas católicos que han sufrido persecución del régimen dictatorial de Nicaragua», aseguró Bolsonaro en la tribuna de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU), en un discurso con tintes electorales en el que desgranó los logros obtenidos por su Gobierno y en el que se declaró «defensor incondicional» de la libertad de expresión y del derecho religioso en su país.
Su Gobierno, dijo, «ha trabajado para traer el derecho a la libertad de religión al centro de la agenda internacional de los derechos humanos», una garantía «esencial» de que «todos tienen derecho a profesar y practicar su orientación religiosa sin discriminación».
Brasil, que tradicionalmente es el primer país en hablar en la apertura de la Asamblea General que dio inicio este martes en Nueva York, «repudia la persecución religiosa en cualquier lugar del mundo». Asimismo, pidió «un alto el fuego inmediato» en Ucrania y abogó por que se mantengan los «canales de diálogo» para resolver un conflicto que ya dura siete meses y cuyo impacto «nos sitúa a todos a contramano de los objetivos del desarrollo sostenible».
