Un día como hoy, 26 de octubre de 1863, se fundó la Cruz Roja Internacional por iniciativa del empresario suizo Henri Dunant, con el objetivo de: “prestar protección y asistencia a las víctimas de los conflictos y enfrentamientos armados”.
El origen de la Cruz Roja se remonta a la batalla de Solferino, Italia, escenificada el 24 de junio de 1859. A partir de esa batalla, Jean Henry Dunant tuvo la idea de formar un cuerpo de voluntarios para socorrer a los heridos de guerra, sin distinción del bando al cual pertenecieran.
