La noche del 31 de octubre se celebra en muchos lugares del mundo la Noche de Halloween, también conocida como Noche de Brujas o Noche de Difuntos.
Halloween se celebra sobre todo en países anglosajones, como Estados Unidos, Reino Unido, Canadá o Irlanda. Aunque últimamente la fiesta se ha universalizado y se celebra en muchos países con poca tradición, como en España o en países de América Latina, donde los pubs, discotecas y bares se suman a la diversión y organizan fiestas de disfraces para atraer a los clientes.
El motivo de que Halloween haya llegado a nuestros días y se haya extendido a muchos países que tradicionalmente no la contemplaban, es por el despliegue comercial y publicitario del cine estadounidense, que ha propagado la imagen de los niños correteando por las oscuras calles de las ciudades y los pueblos pidiendo caramelos, amén de otros films más terroríficos centrados en la noche de Halloween.
Orígenes de Halloween
Halloween es una derivación de la expresión inglesa «All Hallow’s Eve», y que significa «Víspera de Todos los Santos». Pero Halloween es mucho más que eso, se ha convertido en una fiesta que se celebra a nivel mundial.
El origen verdadero fue el Samhain celta, que pasó a los irlandeses. Y fueron los irlandeses los encargados de importarla a EEUU durante la Gran Hambruna irlandesa en 1.840.
Aunque no fue hasta más tarde cuando se celebraría masivamente. El primer gran desfile con motivo de Halloween se celebró en Minnesota en 1921. Le siguieron otros estados y a partir de entonces la fiesta se expandió por todo el territorio estadounidense y países anglosajones.
