«Los perros, gatos y conejos de Nueva York merecen un hogar amoroso y un trato humano», expresó la política demócrata en un comunicado. Esta legislación entrará en vigor en 2024, y permitirá también que las tiendas de mascotas cobren alquiler a los refugios para usar su espacio para adopciones.
La representante del Distrito 67 como demócrata en la Asamblea del Estado de Nueva York, Linda Rosenthal, indicó que, al poner fin de la venta de este tipo de animales en las tiendas de mascotas, los refugios podrán asociarse con estas tiendas para exhibir animales en adopción y conseguir que vayan a hogares.
