Un día como hoy, 19 de diciembre de 1965, se escenificó la Batalla del Hotel Matum en Santiago, República Dominicana. Fue un ataque militar con el objetivo de eliminar al alto mando cívico-militar, encabezado por el coronel Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó, que defendió la soberanía nacional y luchó por el retorno a la constitucionalidad de 1963.
Ese día, Caamaño y otros constitucionalistas viajaron a Santiago a rendir homenaje al coronel Rafael Tomás Fernández Domínguez, ideólogo del movimiento constitucionalista, quien murió en combate el 19 de mayo de 1965.
