El director general de la policía del estado de Uttar Pradesh dijo que el derrumbe parecía haber sido consecuencia de un temblor de magnitud 5,6 ocurrido unas horas antes en el oeste de Nepal, a unos 440 kilómetros de Lucknow.
“Treinta a 35 personas pueden haber quedado sepultadas”, afirmó a la prensa un alto responsable de los servicios de seguridad local, Devendra Singh Chauhan. Los socorristas tratan ahora de encontrarlos, añadió.
