Birmania. – Al menos 50 personas perdieron la vida tras un bombardeo del Ejército birmano este martes contra un acto del Gobierno de Unidad Nacional (NUG), que se declara la autoridad legítima de Birmania tras la asonada de 2021, en la región de Sagaing (al noroeste).
Según confirmó a EFE un portavoz del NUG, el ataque aéreo de las fuerzas armadas birmanas (el Tatmadaw) fue contra una ceremonia de inauguración de una oficina administrativa vinculada al NUG en la localidad de Pazigyi, en Sagaing (uno de los principales bastiones rebeldes en el país).
La cifra coincide con la de medios locales independientes como The Irrawaddy, que agrega que los aviones militares lanzaron dos bombas. mientras un centenar de personas atendían a la inauguración de la que llama Oficina de Autoridad Popular en Pazigyi.
Se trata de uno de los ataques más sangrientos de los que se tiene registro desde que el Ejército dio un golpe de Estado el 1 de febrero de 2021, poniendo fin a una década de transición democrática y sumiendo al país en una espiral de violencia y semianarquía, con los militares controlando apenas una cuarta parte de la nación.
El portavoz del NUG compara la magnitud de este bombardeo con el ataque aéreo perpetrado en octubre durante un festival de música en el norte del país para conmemorar el 62 aniversario de la fundación de la Organización para la Independencia de Kachin (KIO), aliados del NUG, y dejó unos 80 muertos.
