Luego de los rumores de una relación con Leonardo DiCaprio, la modelo Gigi Hadid se fue de vacaciones a las Islas Caimán junto a su amiga Leah Nicole McCarthy. Al aterrizar en el aeropuerto Internacion Owen Roberts del paradisíaco destino el 10 de julio, la dupla pasó su equipaje por los controles de seguridad del aeropuerto; tras pasar el escáner, las autoridades detectaron ciertas “irregularidades”, por lo que optaron por hacer una inspección más exhaustiva.
Tras el cateo, las autoridades descubrieron que Gigi Hadid y su amiga Leah tenían en su posesión marihuana y artículos para su consumo, por lo que terminaron siendo arrestadas bajo los cargos de “sospecha de importación de marihuana e importación de utensilios utilizados para el consumo de marihuana”.
Gigi y Leah fueron trasladadas al Centro de Detención local para ser procesadas y posteriormente puestas en libertad bajo fianza debido a que las cantidades de marihuana que ambas poseían eran mínimas y de consumo personal.
El 12 de julio, Hadid y McCarthy comparecieron ante el Tribunal Sumario y se declararon culpables de posesión de marihuana, teniendo que pagar USD 1000 de fianza por cada una sin tener que pagar condena alguna.
Un representante legal de Hadid afirmó que la marihuana que portaba era de uso médico y había sido comprada en la ciudad de Nueva York. Cabe recordar que el cannabis es ilegal en las Islas Caimán desde 2016, pero dosis pequeñas de CBD para terapias médicas son permitidas.
