En el marco de la 78° Asamblea General de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), el presidente Luis Abinader advirtió este miércoles que la situación en el vecino país, Haití, podría ser una amenaza para la región.
“Haití hoy no solo sufre una tragedia medioambiental sino también una inestabilidad política y social que puede convertirse en una amenaza para toda la región”, sostuvo el mandatario durante su discurso en la ONU.
Asimismo, Abinader reiteró que desde que el gobierno subió al poder ha venido anunciando la posibilidad de que la situación haitiana pueda desbordar las fronteras de ese país incidiendo con un factor de inseguridad en la región y lamentablemente dos años después de esa advertencia se puede ver esta dura realidad.
En ese mismo orden, instó a la comunidad internacional a que “asuma de una vez y por todas» el tema haitiano como uno de altísima prioridad y de permanente seguimiento”.
Cabe recordar que la situación actual que vive el país se debe a que un grupo de haitianos ha retomado la construcción de un canal de desvío de las aguas del Río Masacre en violación de los tratados fronterizos dominico-haitianos.
Y que, además, esta obra «nunca fue comunicada de manera oficial» al Gobierno dominicano.
