El Banco Central Europeo decidió el jueves subir sus tipos de interés en medio punto porcentual, hasta el 3 por ciento, quinta subida consecutiva, después de que la inflación de la zona del euro se ralentizara tres meses seguidos.
Tras la reunión del Consejo de Gobierno, el BCE informó de que también incrementa en 50 puntos básicos la facilidad de crédito, a la que presta a los bancos a un día, hasta el 3,25 por ciento, y la facilidad de depósito, a la que remunera el exceso de reservas a un día, hasta el 2,50 por ciento.
«En vista de las presiones sobre la inflación subyacente, el Consejo de Gobierno prevé aumentar los tipos de interés otros 50 puntos básicos en su próxima reunión de política monetaria de marzo y posteriormente evaluará la senda futura de su política monetaria», señala el BCE en un comunicado.
El BCE considera que «mantener los tipos de interés en niveles restrictivos reducirá con el paso del tiempo la inflación al moderar la demanda, y también servirá de protección frente al riesgo de un desplazamiento persistente al alza de las expectativas de inflación».
