Este miércoles el Banco Mundial comunicó que no puede ayudar a El Salvador a implementar la ‘ley bitcóin’, en respuesta a una solicitud de asistencia técnica realizada por el país centroamericano, que se convirtió la semana pasada en la primera nación del mundo en adoptar esta criptodivisa como moneda de curso legal.
«Estamos comprometidos a ayudar a El Salvador de diversas formas, incluso para la transparencia cambiaria y los procesos regulatorios», afirmó un portavoz del organismo internacional a través de un correo electrónico.
«Si bien el gobierno se acercó a nosotros para pedir ayuda sobre bitcóin, esto no es algo que el Banco Mundial pueda apoyar dadas las deficiencias ambientales y de transparencia», continuó el portavoz del Banco Mundial en su escrito.
Por el momento, el Gobierno salvadoreño no ha reaccionado a este revés, si bien, este mismo miércoles el ministro de Hacienda, Alejandro Zelaya, informó de que su país también estaba en negociaciones con el Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI), que calificó como «exitosas».
Por su parte, el FMI la semana pasada ya advirtió que observaba «problemas macroeconómicos, financieros y legales».
Cuando entre en vigor la legislación aprobada, dentro de casi tres meses, el bitcóin convivirá en El Salvador con el dólar estadounidense, y su cambio será fijado libremente por el mercado, sin intervención estatal.
Por su parte, este lunes el Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE) anunció que llevaría a cabo una asesoría técnica para elaborar el marco regulatorio que permita el uso de la criptomoneda.
