Haití reiteró ante la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) que necesita que se envíen fuerzas extranjeras a su territorio para contener la violencia y garantizar la seguridad en un eventual proceso electoral.
“Para llegar a las elecciones, la seguridad es una condición fundamental sin el apoyo de una fuerza internacional en el terreno, Haití no logrará la seguridad deseada”, dijo el embajador haitiano en la OEA, Leon Charles, en una reunión del Consejo Permanente del organismo, con sede en Washington.
Haití busca convocar elecciones generales este año, pese a estar inmerso en una profunda crisis política y de seguridad.
La embajadora de Santa Lucía ante la OEA, Elizabeth Darius, señaló a los Estados miembros tienen una “deuda histórica” con Haití, al ser el primer país de la región que consiguió la independencia y cuyo ejemplo fue seguido por el resto de territorios.
