El primer ministro jamaiquino, Andrew Holness, anunció este martes que Jamaica está lista para desplegar soldados y policías en Haití como parte de una posible intervención de una fuerza multinacional, informó el medio haitiano Haití 24 citando al periódico estadounidense Miami Herald.
“Jamaica estaría dispuesta a participar en un despliegue multinacional de asistencia de seguridad a Haití dentro de los parámetros jurisdiccionales apropiados para apoyar un nivel razonable de estabilidad y paz que sería necesario para que arraigue cualquier proceso democrático inclusivo”, dijo Andrew Holness durante una sesión en el parlamento
Asimismo, Holness precisó que las fuerzas militares y policiales de Jamaica fueron alertadas y comenzaron a planificar la posibilidad de un despliegue en Haití.
El ejército de Jamaica se encuentra entre los más experimentados de la región del Caribe y está acostumbrado a ayudar a la policía de Haití en operaciones contra pandillas violentas.
Jamaica es el segundo país en ofrecer ayuda a Haití, después de El Salvador, que lleva casi dos años librando una lucha despiadada contra las pandillas.
