La capital Haití, Puerto Príncipe estuvo paralizada y fue escenario de multitudinarias manifestaciones, actos de vandalismo y saqueos, horas después de que se informara de cuánto subirán los precios de los carburantes en el país.
En un día caluroso y con las carreteras bloqueadas por las barricadas, Puerto Príncipe vivió una nueva jornada de paralización de todas las actividades, tanto de instituciones públicas como de empresas privadas.
A la vez, miles de personas se manifestaban por las calles de la capital para exigir que el Gobierno revierta su decisión de aumentar el precio de los derivados del petróleo.
Sin anunciar aún la fecha de aplicación de los nuevos precios, hoy se comunicó que, por galón, la gasolina pasará a costar 570 gourdes (4,83 dólares), el diésel 670 gourdes (5,75 dólares) y el queroseno 665 gourdes (unos 5,65 dólares).
Por el momento, no se sabe lo que costará el transporte público tras esta subida de los combustibles, que también hará incrementarse el precio de los productos de primera necesidad en el país más pobre de América.
En menos de un año, el Gobierno del primer ministro, Ariel Henry, ha aumentado dos veces el precio de los combustibles en los surtidores, lo que ha encarecido aún más el coste de la vida en un país sumido en una crisis sociopolítica y económica sin precedentes y una violencia extrema.
