El astro argentino Lionel Messi ganó el premio GOAL50 al mejor futbolista masculino del año e igualó el récord del portugués Cristiano Ronaldo, quien también suma ya cinco galardones.
Las clasificaciones se decidieron mediante una serie de duelos entre dos jugadores en los que votaron fanáticos de todo el mundo.
Antes de este año, las listas de los 50 mejores jugadores eran creadas por cientos de periodistas de GOAL y los ganadores anteriores del premio masculino fueron Robert Lewandowski (2020), Virgil van Dijk (2019), Luka Modric (2018), Lionel Messi (2009, 2011, 2013 y 2015), Cristiano Ronaldo (2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 y 2017) y Wesley Sneijder (2010).
Más de 14 millones de votos se emitieron solo en la sección masculina.
«El máximo goleador internacional masculino de todos los tiempos, Ronaldo, lideró la votación hasta las últimas 24 horas, y las votaciones se cerraron (…) pero Messi reclamó el 50,1% de los votos a su favor», agrega la publicación.
El argentino adelantó a su rival por solo 24 votos.
