Kenia está lista para liderar una fuerza multinacional en Haití, que está experimentando un aumento de la violencia entre la policía y las pandillas, dijo el sábado su ministro de Relaciones Exteriores.
El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores keniano, Alfred Mutua, dijo en un comunicado: “El compromiso de Kenia es desplegar un contingente de 1000 policías para ayudar a capacitar y ayudar a la policía haitiana a restablecer la normalidad en el país y proteger las instalaciones estratégicas”.
EE.UU optimista con el despliegue
El secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Antony Blinken, expresó su optimismo sobre el despliegue de una fuerza multinacional en Haití.
«Estamos muy concentrados en intentar poner en marcha lo necesario para una fuerza multinacional, incluido encontrar una nación líder que se encargue de ella» dijo Blinken durante una entrevista con la Agence France Presse (AFP).
«Mi expectativa es que muy pronto tendremos progresos de los que informar sobre el progreso en esta área. Las pandillas controlan alrededor del 80% de la capital haitiana, y los delitos violentos como el secuestro por rescate, el robo a mano armada y el robo de vehículos son comunes”, agregó.
No todos ven con buenos ojos disposición de Kenia
El exprimer ministro de Haití, Claude Joseph, reaccionó a la disposición de Kenia de liderar el despliegue de una fuerza multinacional en el país caribeño, cuestionando la voluntad del país africano.
El exjefe de Gobierno consideró que un país en medio de una crisis política no puede pretender ayudar a resolver la de otro país.
“Kenia, que ha dicho que está lista para liderar una fuerza internacional en Haití, está atrapada en su propia crisis sociopolítica interna. Durante meses, las protestas mortales han sacudido regularmente al país», escribió Joseph en su cuenta de Twitter.
«Manifestaciones antigubernamentales que protestan por el alto costo de la vida son reprimidas violentamente por una policía bajo recortes regulados, despertando así fuertes críticas de varias organizaciones de derechos humanos y de la Conferencia Episcopal de Kenia. Una policía que no es profesional en su país, ¿puede serlo en otro lugar?», agregó.
Gobierno haitiano saluda apoyo keniano
De su lado, el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Haití, Jean Victor Généus, saludó la idea de que Kenia asuma el liderazgo de una fuerza multinacional en Haití para ayudar a la Policía Nacional a restablecer el orden.
“El Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores y Asuntos Religiosos (MAEC) recibió con gran interés las declaraciones de su homólogo keniano que confirman la voluntad de este hermano país de brindar un apoyo efectivo a las fuerzas del orden haitianas en su lucha por el restablecimiento de un ambiente de seguridad en el país, e incluso considerar la posibilidad de asumir el liderazgo de una fuerza multinacional tan pronto como el Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas haya dado su aprobación”, escribió Généus, en comunicado de prensa, este domingo.
“Haití aprecia plenamente esta manifestación de solidaridad africana y se complace en recibir en las próximas semanas la misión de evaluación que Kenia se propone enviar”, agrega el canciller haitiano en el texto.
Kenia está considerando positivamente liderar una fuerza multinacional en Haití y está lista para enviar 1000 policías para ayudar a entrenar a los oficiales de la PNH y también para lidiar con el clima de inseguridad que ha prevalecido en el país durante varios años.
