Kenia atrapada en su propia crisis sociopolítica, ha anunciado que liderará una fuerza multinacional en Haití para lidiar con la escalada de violencia que se ha desatado en el país caribeño producto del control que ejercen las bandas armadas.
El anuncio no fue visto con buenos ojos por todos, siendo el exprimer ministro haitiano, Claude Joseph, el primero en criticar el despliegue ofrecido por Kenia.
“Kenia, que ha dicho que está lista para liderar una fuerza internacional en Haití, está atrapada en su propia crisis sociopolítica interna. Durante meses, las protestas mortales han sacudido regularmente al país», escribió Joseph en su cuenta de Twitter.
«Manifestaciones antigubernamentales que protestan por el alto costo de la vida son reprimidas violentamente por una policía bajo recortes regulados, despertando así fuertes críticas de varias organizaciones de derechos humanos y de la Conferencia Episcopal de Kenia. Una policía que no es profesional en su país, ¿puede serlo en otro lugar?», agregó.
En el mes de julio al menos 23 personas fallecieron en una serie de protestas antigubernamentales que sacudieron el país africano por lo que el portavoz de la Oficina de Derechos Humanos de Naciones Unidas (ONU), Jeremy Laurence, reconoció que la organización está «muy preocupada» por el «uso incensario o desproporcionado de la violencia» contra manifestantes.
Las protestas convocada por el líder opositor Raila Odinga en Kenia, sacudió la capital, Nairobi, y otras ciudades del país, en medio de una dura represión por parte de las fuerzas de seguridad kenianas. Los manifestantes protestaron por el aumento de los impuestos del combustible.
Las reacciones están llegando a raudales a la propuesta de Kenia de dirigir una misión militar en Haití. De hecho, más de uno cree que este país del este de África no puede liderar una misión militar en suelo haitiano. Para respaldar su tesis, evocan los problemas que asolan a Kenia
El Sindicato Nacional de Oficiales de Policía de Haití, por su parte, no tiene ningún problema con ello. Por el contrario, el coordinador de esta estructura, Lyonel Lazarre, denuncia una campaña de discriminación contra Kenia.
Recordemos que el gobierno haitiano, en octubre de 2022, hizo una solicitud oficial a las Naciones Unidas para el despliegue de una fuerza multinacional en el país para ayudar a resolver el problema de inseguridad que azota a la sociedad haitiana.
Y Kenia arropada al igual que Haití por ejecuciones extrajudiciales y lidiando con su propia crisis sociopolítica aceptó liderar el despliegue.
