La junta militar que gobierna Níger tras el golpe de Estado perpetrado a finales de julio, anunció este domingo que procesará al presidente derrocado Mohamed Bazoum por alta traición.
De acuerdo con el coronel mayor de la Fuerza Aérea de Níger, Amadou Abdramane, el nuevo gobierno del país «ha recogido pruebas para procesar al presidente derrocado y a sus cómplices locales y extranjeros ante las instancias nacionales e internacionales competentes por alta traición y por socavar la seguridad interior y exterior de Níger».
Cabe recordar que Bazoun, depuesto el 26 de julio, actualmente está retenido por los golpistas en su residencia en la capital del país, Niamey.
Además, ante a las amenazas de una posible operación militar extranjera para restituir a Bazoum, los representantes de la junta militar, con los que a principios de esta semana se reunió la subsecretaria de Estado de EE.UU. para Asuntos Políticos, Victoria Nuland, le habían advertido de que matarían al mandatario derrocado en caso de cualquier intento de intervención militar.
