El mandatario Ashraf Ghani dimitió a su cargo y abandonó el país. Los avances de la insurgencia en las últimas semanas siguieron a la retirada definitiva del contingente internacional liderado por Estados Unidos, iniciada el pasado mes de abril.
La llegada de los talibanes a Kabul provocó que muchas personas se apresuraran a abandonar el país, lo que se tradujo en atascos en las vías y estampidas en el aeropuerto de la ciudad.
