La policía mató a un puma que atacó a un niño de cinco años y lo arrastró por el jardín frente a su casa en el sur de California.
El león de montaña de 30 kilogramos (65 libras) atacó al niño el jueves cuando éste jugaba cerca de su casa en Calabasas y “lo arrastró unas 45 yardas” (metros) por el jardín frontal, dijo el capitán Patrick Foy.
El niño sufrió traumatismos considerables en la cabeza y torso superior, pero se encontraba en condición estable en un hospital de Los Ángeles, agregó Foy.
Los padres del niño lo llevaron de inmediato al hospital, en donde policías fueron notificados del ataque y enviaron a un agente de vida silvestre al lugar.
Una vez en la casa, el agente descubrió un puma agachado entre los arbustos con sus “orejas hacia atrás y siseando”.
“Debido a su comportamiento y la proximidad del ataque, el agente creyó que probablemente era el puma agresor y para proteger al público le disparó con seguridad y lo mató en el sitio”.
Pruebas subsecuentes de ADN confirmaron que el león de montaña fue el responsable de atacar al niño.
