Una asamblea de defensores del territorio de comunidades originarias mayas en el sureste de México rechazó las iniciativas de ley sobre apicultura, presentadas en ambas cámaras del Congreso, así como normas emitidas recientemente en estados de esa zona del país.
Las comunidades afirman que esas iniciativas de ley «son parte de las amenazas y riesgos que no solamente no resuelven los problemas sino los agravan, empezando por no haber sido consultadas, no siguieron un debido proceso y no protegen a la apicultura».
El documento asegura que los proyectos legislativos carecen del interés por abordar las problemáticas que aquejan a las «familias que procuran la vida junto con las abejas».
También señala que las amenazas reales son «la deforestación, el cambio climático, la agricultura industrial de monocultivos, la siembra de cultivos genéticamente modificados, el amplio uso de plaguicidas y agrotóxicos».
Las comunidades indígenas deploran que las iniciativas de ley propuestas por diputados y senadores no establecen medidas pertinentes ni integrales contra «la comercialización de miel adulterada y falsa», entre tantas amenazas que no son abordadas.
Las leyes no respaldan el trabajo de campesinos mayas, sino que «van contra las abejas, el trabajo de los apicultores y la vida».
Por ejemplo, mencionan que se pretende imponer obligatoriamente una serie de «disposiciones ajenas a la realidad local y cultural, estableciendo innecesarios y numerosos requisitos, trámites complejos, costosos y burocráticos, que terminarían por desincentivar el quehacer de la apicultura», que se encuentra en condiciones de desventaja y desigualdad en territorios indígenas y campesinos.
