Un grupo de desarrolladores de la Universidad de Tubinga (Alemania) diseñaron un robot capaz de jugar tenis de mesa contra los humanos a nivel amateur, repeliendo con éxito golpes sencillos de sus rivales.
Primero, los ingenieros crearon un programa que simulaba un brazo equipado con una raqueta jugando tenis sobre una mesa virtual gracias al algoritmo de aprendizaje automático, que memorizaba cómo la posición de la raqueta y la velocidad de la pelota afectaban su trayectoria.
Cuando el programa empezó a repeler golpes virtuales sin fallos, los científicos lo implementaron para controlar los movimientos de un brazo robótico que logró mantener un peloteo sobre una mesa de tenis real.
