Decenas de manifestantes israelíes de derecha se reunieron a la entrada de Jerusalén, la noche del 18 de diciembre, para exigir al gobierno israelí que actúe tras los ataques palestinos de las últimas semanas, incluido un tiroteo mortal en Cisjordania el 16 de diciembre que se cobró la vida de un estudiante religioso judío.
La protesta se produjo horas después de que un hombre de 38 años resultara levemente herido cuando una anciana palestina lo apuñaló en un puesto de control cerca de la Tumba de los Patriarcas, en la ciudad cisjordana de Hebrón, que tanto judíos como musulmanes consideran sagrada. El lugar ha sido un importante foco de violencia.
En las últimas semanas se ha registrado un aumento de los ataques terroristas palestinos, sólo cuatro de ellos tuvieron lugar en Jerusalén, incluido un tiroteo mortal a fines del mes pasado cometido por un miembro de Hamás.
Durante la manifestación la Policía arrestó a 13 personas por alteración del orden público, incluida una persona que portaba «armas».
