Intensas lluvias en el inicio de la temporada húmeda en Bolivia dejaron al menos 14 muertos, más de un millar de familias desplazadas y casi un centenar de viviendas destruidas, informó el viceministro de Defensa Civil, Juan Carlos Calvimontes.
«Cinco víctimas fatales en hechos de tránsito provocados por las lluvias se sumaron este martes a nueve fallecidos reportados hasta el fin de semana», dijo el funcionario a la red radial local Éxito.
El viceministro añadió que su oficina registró hasta la mañana del 21 de diciembre la destrucción de 87 viviendas y otras afectaciones a inmuebles que dejaron sin techo a 1.677 familias.
Los desastres fueron reportados desde cinco de los nueve departamentos del país, en medio de lluvias persistentes y más intensas de lo habitual, pues las precipitaciones en Bolivia suelen alcanzar sus niveles máximos en enero y febrero.
En el departamento oriental de Santa Cruz, las crecidas de ríos provocaron la declaración de alerta roja, por el alto riesgo de inundaciones de áreas urbanas y rurales, en especial en la cuenca del río Piraí.
