La ONG Human Rights Watch (HRW) ha denunciado que los extranjeros que viven en Ucrania se han enfrentado a un trato desigual a la hora de intentar salir del país, pues aparentemente se prioriza la evacuación de mujeres y niños ucranianos.
Las autoridades del país han reconocido ser conscientes de este problema y han asegurado estar tomando medidas para garantizar que los extranjeros puedan abandonar el país, inmerso en un conflicto con Rusia que se prolonga ya desde hace más de una semana.
«Es una situación desgarradora para todos los que intentan salir del peligro, y todos los que escapan de la guerra, sin importar de dónde vengan, deberían poder irse», ha señalado al respecto la directora asociada de HRW para Europa y Asia Central, Judith Sunderland.
Sunderland considera que «las autoridades ucranianas no deberían discriminar por nacionalidad o raza, y los países vecinos deberían permitir el ingreso de todos con un mínimo de burocracia».
Cuando se supera la primera semana desde que Rusia iniciara su ofensiva contra Ucrania, la cifra de personas desplazadas a los países vecinos Polonia, Rumanía, Hungría, Moldavia y Eslovaquia ya supera el millón.
Ahora Ucrania se enfrenta al problema de garantizar la evacuación de miles de estudiantes que se habían desplazado hasta el país.
Según el Gobierno, en 2020 había unos 80.000 estudiantes internacionales en el país, en su mayoría procedentes de India, Marruecos, Azerbaiyán, Turkmenistán y Nigeria.
El organismo ha pedido a las agencias de la Unión Europea que se desplieguen en las fronteras para ayudar en las labores garantizar la asistencia humanitaria básica a las personas atrapadas en las zonas fronterizas del lado ucraniano.
