El secretario de Defensa estadounidense, Lloyd Austin, llegó este martes a Bagdad en una visita sorpresa en el marco de su gira por Oriente Medio.
Austin es el cargo de mayor rango de la administración de Joe Biden que visita el país y su viaje coincide en el mes en el que se cumplen 20 años de la invasión de EE.UU. a Irak.
“Estoy aquí para reafirmar la asociación estratégica entre Estados Unidos e Irak en nuestro camino hacia un Irak más seguro, estable y soberano”, dijo el jefe del Pentágono en su cuenta oficial de Twitter.
Hasta el momento no se conocen los detalles de este viaje, que se produce a menos de dos semanas del vigésimo aniversario de la invasión estadounidense de Irak iniciada en 2003 que derrocó al régimen del ex dictador Sadam Husein.
