La Oficina de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos anunció hoy que las bandas armadas haitianas asesinaron a al menos 208 personas en las dos primeras semanas de marzo. La portavoz de la oficina, Marta Hurtado, dijo en rueda de prensa que otras 164 fueron heridas y 101 secuestradas.
La portavoz indicó que los miembros de las bandas también están utilizando la violencia sexual contra las mujeres y las niñas de Haití para aterrorizar a ellas y a sus familias.
La Oficina reportó casos de profesores y alumnos que murieron en tiroteos y advirtió sobre la falta de protección de los jóvenes en las escuelas, lo que los lleva en muchas ocasiones a ser reclutados por las pandillas.
A lo largo de todo el año 2023 este órgano ha registrado 531 asesinatos, 300 personas heridas y 277 secuestros, en incidentes ocurridos principalmente en Puerto Príncipe, la capital haitiana.
